for everyone
Dave Freeman passed away this week. He was the author of "100 Things to Do Before You Die." That got me thinking of what is still left that I want to do in my life. I'm at the age where I really need to start getting going on this. He was only 47 so that also gives me something to think about as well. You never know what might happen tomorrow so you better make the most of today.

As some people will undoubtedly point out, some of these things on my list are for young people. Well, I'm not getting any younger. Some of these things I will never likely be able to do, but I can still have them on my list. So here is my bucket list in no particular order:

  • Skydive
  • Try my hand at farming
  • Travel in space (suborbital would be ok)
  • Spend Christmas at the lake
  • Downhill ski
  • Spend more time with my family
  • See a space shuttle launch
  • Write a science fiction novel
  • Save someone's life
  • Ride my bike to the lake (155 miles) in one day
  • Start my own company
  • Hang glide
  • Walk my daughters down the aisle when they get married
  • Start playing the tenor sax again
  • Discover a comet
  • Learn how to cook prime rib
  • Learn to ballroom dance
  • Get my private pilots license
  • Hold my grandchildren
  • Camp in Alaska (or northern Minnesota) on my own for a week
  • Take a professional race car driving class
  • Go on a hot air balloon ride
  • See a total solar eclipse
  • Furnish a home with furniture and cabinets I built myself
  • See a NASCAR race in person
  • Drive across the US taking 2 months to do it
  • Learn to scuba dive
  • Complete a triathlon
  • Learn a foreign language
  • Live at the lake year round

I could go on and on with this list but thirty things seemed to be a nice round number.

What was interesting was that as I wrote this list I realized that some of these things will never happen. But even more importantly was what was on this list that can happen with relative ease. All I have to do is set aside some time to do them.

How about you? What's on your list? Go ahead and write a blog on it and share with others what's in your bucket list. And when you're doing it, think about some ways that you can actually accomplish some of them. You might be surprised to find out that some of them probably are not going to be that difficult to accomplish.

I should add one more thing to my list - see the movie "The Bucket List."

I did this once too. It was on my list. ..........yes yes go if you can. Its noisy and awesome! I spent $300 on tickets and I may never get a chance to go again but it was worth every penny. I took my son and his family and we had a blast.

Save someone's life
hmmmmmmm...been doing that for 20 years:) It's not all it's cracked up to be. Rarely do they appreciate it....

I'm so impressed...30 things. I am thinking I will have a hard time coming up with 30...

I liked reading yours....and I could definitely picture you camping in Alaska then returning to walk your daughters down the isle to finally holding your grandbaby....that would be precious!

My Gabriel and Sarah are due here next week....I'm so excited.

I have seen the movie The Bucket List.
Awesome movie.
We can always write dwn a list of things we want to do.
A lot can be accomplished if we apply ourselves.
Some things on our list are wistful thing but there is nothing wrong with that.

lol! We bought the movie! Sure wish we had access to the planes.. cause.. I would have done ALL that traveling by now! Now that you have your list.. you need to add one more thing.. START DOING IT.. No regrets! We're getting older.. and some of this stuff.. well, if your body can't take it.. it's off the list. So, look at the physical stuff.. and get moving on it!!

PS.. WHERE were you in 1978 when the solar eclipse happened?? Was it cloudy or something??

Fabulous list, Mark. But I think you've already got your "A List" sorted. You have a wonderful family, and more time at the lake will follow I'm sure, along with the grandchildren. I'm with you on flying into space. It's a lifelong ambition I'll never fulfil...

Interestingly, I have done most of the things on your list; the ones I haven't I don't care to do. I don't have many regrets in life but the one I do have is not having a family . . . scuba diving and airplane flying are just a blip compared to that.

I know a lot of people do this as part of their everyday life. I've never had this chance and is something I'd like to experience. That is what is fun about lists like this. What one person would love to experience is ho-hum to someone else. I don't mean that in a negative way, it's just that something I dream about is something that you do on a regular basis.

Popping in via dismal's place. I think I need to see this movie.

I hear ya. I know what you mean though.
Quite often, for us, the "saving" is pretty routine and unfussed and often the recipient is blythely unaware of a near call - hence the ingratitude I suppose.
After a while, you just don't feel that same adrenaline rush as you did earlier in your career. You're more in control - of the situation and yourself.
I still remember though - and yeah, it felt good. On a high for ages afterwards.

I think everyone should make a list and always have dreams. I think dreams/goals keep us going!

Mark, I've done quite a few of these.

I've started a business and seen it fail spectacularly - I've also started three others and done quite well with them.

The thing about doing a lot of these is that you run a lot of risks. Still -- it's a grand thing to think about.
